The concept of Zenana Women centres around the beautiful hand-done embroidery local to the city of Lucknow, India. It is high-quality, labour-intensive work, and our objective is to feature it in garments of equal quality, designed in Australia to fit Australian women’s sizing and Australian women’s lives.
Our emphasis is on quality in fabrics and workmanship, with the beauty and variation of the handmade.
The traditional embroidery of the Indian city of Lucknow is featured in our designs.
We produce garments for both average sizes and plus sizes, in ‘fusion’ designs that use the beauty of Indian fabrics and embellishment with Western shapes and styling.
We focus on Indian silks, cottons and linens, including handloom fabrics and hand-done prints, with embroidery in cotton and silk thread, and sometimes with beading and sequins.
Our garments are imported exclusively from our sister company in India, established for the purpose of supporting HIV/AIDS-affected and other needy families in building viable futures for themselves.

The top layer is hand-printed cotton in a traditional Indian design, and underneath is a toning plain fabric in either silk/cotton/synthetic blend or handloom cotton.
